It is was a rare incident in the previous government, that the minister who laid the foundation stone of any development project use to see it functional or operational, but the story is completely different under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where the government is performance driven on committed time. On Thursday, during his day-long visit to Gujarat, he attended the fourth convocation of The Gujarat Forensic Sciences University- it is not merely coincident when he was the chief minister of Gujarat he laid the foundation stone of the GFSU- “world’s first and only University dedicated to Forensic and allied Sciences.”
While addressing the graduating 517 students, Prime minister said, “with changing time, ways of committing crimes are also changing and therefore to deal with its latest technologies are required.” Emphasizing the use of use of DNA profiling in solving heinous crimes like rape, PM said for speedy justice to the victim we have to adopt the latest technology in forensic science.
The recently central government has approved the DNA technology (Use and application regulation bill-2018. Gujarat is leading the advancement in forensic science, policing and judiciary which are three important pillars to ensure citizen safety and speedy criminal justice system in the state. “Establishment of Raksha Shakti University, The National Law University, and Gujarat Forensic Science University are steps taken in that direction by BJP Government,” said Prime Minister.
The Gujarat Forensic Sciences University was established by the Government of Gujarat through an act passed by the Gujarat Legislative Assembly dated 30th September 2008 with an objective of fulfilling the acute shortage against increasing demand of forensic experts in the country and around the world. Evidently, the University became functional from July 2009 onwards with various courses, scientific programs, and training modules. The University was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as a State University under section 22 of UGC Act, 1956 to award degrees in May 2011.
