BJP Worker stabbed to death while putting up banners for Modi Rally in Bengaluru
A BJP worker was stabbed to death by a group of four people in JC Nagar in north Bengaluru on Wednesday night, when he was putting up buntings for the BJP’s Parivartana Rally, scheduled to be held in the city on February 4.
28-year old Santhosh was stabbed on his thigh and the police have arrested two men – Wasim and Phillip – in connection with the case. The victim is a resident of Vasantnagar and is a member of the BJP Yuva Morcha.
While the BJP claims that the murder was politically motivated, the JC Nagar Police officers investigating the case say otherwise. Speaking to TNM, Inspector Girish Naik of JC Nagar Police Sttion said that the murder happened after a drunken brawl between Santhosh and his friends.

“There are four accused in the case – Wasim, Phillip, Umar and Irfan. We arrested Wasim and Phillip last night a few hours after the incident occurred (around 7.45 pm). Up on interrogating the accused, we received information that the four men were not happy about Santhosh asking them to buy him drinks and smokes. A heated arguement began and when things escalated, Santhosh got stabbed. There is no political or communal reasons for Santhos’s death. Santhosh and the four men were neighbours and grew up together,” Inspector Girish said.
The incident occurred around 9 pm on Wednesday night when Santhosh was tying buntings for the upcoming Parivartana Yatra rally in Bengaluru on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to speak at the rally in the city.
Since the death of Santhosh comes weeks after BJP worker Deepak Rao’s brutal murder in Dakshina Kannada’s Katipala, the BJP took to Twitter claiming that Santhosh’s murder too was politically motivated. Deepak Rao’s death had led to violent protests in the coastal district and had also claimed the life of Ahmed Basheer in retaliatory violence.

It also triggered a political row in the state with BJP leaders pointing to the death of Rao to illustrate that law and order has broken down in the state.
Taking to Twitter, BJP leaders said that the latest death took the death toll of Hindus in the state to 23 since the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government came to power in the state.
